Jon Ruben admitted 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepchild had worries about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not responded by that time," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She stated the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
