The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, you'll find a demand for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types successfully include many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
